In our culture we often live in big family groups. And you know I'm sure that some of our indigenous young people will be facing loneliness. And you know from time to time but that will develop and grow into that sense of Pride and that they've been able to given a chance to be able to live in a place that they can call their home.
Vicki is a cultural mentor at our Townsville Youth Foyer, and she’s excited to see the young people’s sense of pride after getting the support they need to achieve their goals.
‘In our culture, we often live in big family groups. I’m sure that some of our Indigenous young people will be facing loneliness from time to time but that will develop and grow into that sense of pride that they’ve been given a chance to live in a place that they can call their home,’ Vicki says.
The new Townsville Youth Foyer has 40 units that provide safe homes for Queenslanders aged between 16 and 25 who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness
Young residents receive 24/7 onsite support from Mission Australia youth workers to help them gain practical life skills to transition into independent living while they work, study or train for a qualification in their chosen field.
Youth Foyers
Youth Foyers support young people to gain essential, practical life skills to help them transition into independent living. Residents must be in employment, education or training while living in the Youth Foyer. We’re delivering 8 more Youth Foyers for vulnerable young people across the state.
