Local products save the environment

The user-friendly, online tools developed by Truii, prioritise Great Barrier Reef (Reef) investment in water quality improvement projects and information transparency.

Managing Director, Nick Marsh, and Chief Operating Officer, Bonny Marsh co-founded the small technology company Truii in 2013.

The business, which invests heavily in research and development, developed Reefonomics and the Paddock to Reef Projector (P2R Projector) to support Reef investment and activity decision-making.

Truii strongly demonstrates the Queensland Government’s procurement approach by employing locals and driving positive environmental outcomes for the Reef through its innovative online tools which support the environment, economy, and tourism while building community trust.

Reefonomics is a region-scale strategic planning tool prioritising investment in water quality improvements across the Reef catchments.

'It provides a transparent, defensible and repeatable process for the Queensland Government to determine what actions to perform and where, for the best return on investment for Queenslanders and the Reef,' Bonny said.

P2R Projector, which has more than 400 users, estimates the water quality benefits of on-farm projects before funding.

'This ensures 100 per cent of funded projects have a measurable positive water quality outcome for the Reef. It prevents thousands of tonnes of pollutants from impacting the Reef,' Bonny said.

Bonny said the tools had contributed to regional job creation, enabling more agronomists and on-ground engagement staff to help farmers comply with funded activities.

Truii’s Reef Water Quality Report Card reports the collective progress of investment programs toward achieving reef water quality targets and the Paddock to Reef Data Portal is used by contributors to the reef water quality program to share data.

Growing from 3 to 15staff, Truii is forging ahead solving other real-life problems in Queensland and interstate.
