Empowering remote and regional Queensland communities
To help Indigenous peoples in remote locations find work, Commercial Property Cleaning Pty Ltd Chief Executive Officer, Mark Snell, literally knocks on doors. And if he sees a regional subcontractor with great equipment, he’ll swap business cards.
The company is a committed supporter of the Queensland Government’s procurement approach. It delivers for Queensland by:
- providing employment opportunities for Queenslanders from many different backgrounds in remote, regional and urban areas
- their commitment to environment sustainability, offsetting carbon emissions through afforestation initiatives
- advocating for chemical-free cleaning.
With a diverse workforce of around 385 full-time and casual employees (including around 15% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees), and in collaboration with 35 contractors, Commercial Property Cleaning has seen significant growth, securing contracts worth over $9 million across Queensland.
The company, with a central office situated in Underwood, now has satellite branches in Cairns, Townsville, Mt Isa, Maryborough and the Gold Coast.
Contracts in remote communities such as Normanton, Georgetown, Hughenden, and Lockhart River boost the local economy and create new employment avenues for the residents. Hiring locals for specialised tasks, like pressure washing or high-access window cleaning, is beneficial for both the community and the business.
Besides in-person engagement, the company utilises social media and community noticeboards to attract potential workers and suppliers. Comprehensive training ensures that all recruits are well-prepared for their roles.
'We don't just hire people, we offer them a genuine chance to embark on a career,' Mark said.
Employees have opportunities for growth, with many advancing from cleaning roles to supervisory and managerial positions.
Commercial Property Cleaning actively collaborates with clients to offer regional subcontractors periodic jobs, further bolstering regional employment.
As a 100% carbon-neutral supplier, Commercial Property Cleaning tracks its emissions from vehicles and flights to equipment and lights. The company has planted over 1,000 trees and shrubs this year and purchased 100 renewable energy credits to counterbalance emissions.
Mark said that by using special equipment, Commercial Property Cleaning was able to undertake chemical-free cleaning across most client sites. The company has also introduced a waste management initiative that separates waste streams in offices, helping to divert waste from landfill.
Commercial Property Cleaning is dedicated to delivering jobs and supply opportunities for Queenslanders, strengthening communities and helping to grow a strong economy.
